Crochet Scissor Grip Covers

This always happens. When I am trying to focus on one craft project, another idea pops into my head! Last night, I was working on an upcoming crochet project when I lost focus, wondering if I could somehow add a little something to my favorite pair of scissors. I started crocheting over one of the grips and...voila! A moment of distraction turned into a cozy grip cover. Here is how I did it if you want to spruce up your own scissors...
Materials:

- Scissors
- A G6/4.00mm crochet hook
- Cotton yarn (I used Rowan Handknit Cotton)
- Tapestry needle

1. Create a slip knot on your crochet hook and leave a long tail for weaving.
2. Bring the hook under the scissor opening, pull the yarn up through the opening, wrap the yarn around the hook, and pull through. Continue with single crochet until the grip is covered.
3. Pull the yarn through the last loop and bind off.
4. Now that you have two long ends on each side of the grip cover, use the tapestry needle to weave in the ends. Cut off the excess yarn.
5. Repeat these steps for the second grip.
The crochet covers make the scissors much softer to grip when I am snipping away excess yarn and thread. Also, the bright colors will help my scissors stand out in the bottomless pit that is my notions bag. ;)

Sometimes good things can come from distractions.

Let me know if you give this quick project a try. I hope your week is off to a great start!

  3. That's a lovely idea - and you can easily change the grips when you fancy a colour change!
Love your sweet little tea plate too - I'm on the lookout for some vintage (or vintage-esque) cake plates, I'm like a magpie drawn to anything like that at the moment!

  5. The scissors themselves are so beautiful, and what you made only makes them look better. I love the color combination, and another convenient thing is that anytime you feel like changing it up, you make use different colors and make a new one!

  20. I think I saw some tiny scissors like that at Michaels that I did not buy because I already have plenty of scissors. But I do not have CUTE AND TINY BIRD SCISSORS so I think I may have to make another trip. Also, I figured out how to crochet last night! Finally! I can knit up a storm, but crochet confounds me. First trial ended up with a bunch of loops on the crochet hook, and I knew that couldn't be right, then the whole thing was curved (forgot the turning chain!), but I finally have the hang of it. I'm going to keep practicing a little before I jump into your rainbow cake pattern, which needs to be a present for Baby Bear's birthday coming up in June! She so loves rainbows. She tells me all the time that we're "rainbow buddies." Neat.
